Parent- Teacher Conference...

My Aspie

Growing up I never dreaded PT conference. I guess because I had nothing to fear. For most of my life I was a straight A student and always the teachers pet.

I think my lack of nerves has been more than made up for in that area now.

I dread parent teacher conference. I want to go and hear how fabulous my children are doing... not what modifications need to be made to and IEP or how my child is constantly searching for dried glue on all chairs and desks during class time.

Lucky me... today was parent teacher conference.

Isaac of course, being the adorable child that he is, fits right into the teachers pet category with ease. He is doing fabulous in everything and only lacks a bit on his ability to have legible writing (point out a first grader you know that has mastered this).

Seth, on the other hand, has been stuck with a mean, crochity, old women as a math teacher. Please don't misunderstand me. I have deep respect for teachers... but this certain teacher has been teaching since I went to school there~ and yes, she was crochity then!

Her goal has been to move Seth down to the lower level math class since the first few days of school. When I refused she begrudgingly kept Seth in class~ only to complain about him every time I would stop to check on his progress.

But Seth proved her wrong~ I was so delighted!! He got a B in the class. He is hanging right in there with the rest of the class. No~ they will NOT be moving my son to the lower level class... because that is not where he needs to be! Better yet- he scored advanced in his math testing!!!

WAY TO GO SETH AND ISAAC!! You both made parent teacher conferences extremely pleasant!!!

(Seth says I have to have three exclamations... because he likes odd numbers!!!) :)

  1. Oooooh. I am smiling like crazy here Jen. Way to show them Seth, don't let anybody try to keep you down.
Btw Jen, don't feel the need to apologize or even explain your discription of that horrid teacher. I have the highest respect for those wonderful people who go into teaching. They work harder than a lot of other people, and usually for less pay. Especially when you consider the long hours they put into preperation, and, not only grading papers but having to read each individual one.
Teachers are pretty amazing in all they do.
BUT. There are people who go into teaching who have NO RIGHT being there. Not only do they have no tolerance for children, but I think many of them can't stand kids at all. I've never figured out why those kinds of people would ever choose teacing as a career. The only thing I've ever come up with is that at one point, they must have thought that was what they wanted to do, but after teaching a few years they realize that it is not for them. And there they are stuck with a Teaching degree and either don't want to go back to school for a different career or simply can't. So they stick it out for twenty or thirty years. Each year becoming more hateful and resentful of their students.
I consider those teachers, POISON. They can utterly destroy the self esteem of certain students in the course of just one year. They are impossible for the schools to get rid of because the Teachers Union is just so damn powerful.I hope that this awful teacher won't be able to instill any long term damage on Seth.
He should be able to survive her though. Lucky for him he has a great mom who is willing to do battle for him to get him what he needs.

  3. He's 9~ so he wants an odd number but he did advise me that next year he would switch to even numbers. I think I should just be thankful he didn't want me to put 9 exclamation points~ I will totally settle for the "odd" request! Get it... odd!

  4. You're lucky. I know I made my parents dread parent teacher conferences. It was really unfair to them, because the teachers seemed to think they weren't trying. I was just incredibly stubborn.

It's too bad they don't have parent teacher conferences in college, haha.
